William Shakespeare

 

Did you know who is the greatest writer in the English language? William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright and world´s pre-eminent dramatist.

He was born on 26th April in 1564 at Stratford - upon - Avon, Warwickshire. At the age of 18, he was married to Anne Hathaway. She was 8 years older than him. They had three children.

In the year 1590, Shakespeare went to London to work there as an actor and a playwright. When he wrote his own plays he was very successful. In the year 1594, he joined Lord Chamberlain´s Man and he worked as a leading dramatist. Later they build their own theatre name the Globe. Which was in the year 1613 was destroyed by fire.

Shakespeare wrote 37 plays usually divided into tragedies, comedies, historical plays and romances. His famous tragedies plays are Romeo a Juliet, Hamlet, Othello, Macbeth etc. Besides, he also wrote sonnets with his own special form of poetry. His plays are full of passion and vitality. He studies people in various social and personal conflicts and a contrary to Renaissance optimism. He also shows the downside of human nature: hypocrisy, obsession with power and riches, cruelty, violence etc.
